Wakefield Cathedral enlists the help of the TA for Jubilee

Wakefield Cathedral – Sunday, 3 June   Wakefield Cathedral has enlisted the help of the local branch of the Territorial Army to put on a huge open-air Diamond Jubilee event in the city. Church leaders had the idea to get the TA involved in providing a Big Jubilee Lunch Barbeque when they realised just how many of the community they are hoping to cater for.   Celebrations are planned to begin with a Kings and Queen’s parade, processing from the Cathedral to the Town Hall in order to collect the Mayor of Wakefield and return to the precinct. At 11am an open-air service will be held to give God thanks for the Queen’s life and reign and to pray for the country. Singers from churches across the diocese have been invited to join a mass choir for the big occasion.    Then around midday, the barbeque will begin. Local schools and organisations will be involved and street entertainment will be part of the party; music, buskers, games etc. Organisers expect up to 1,000 people.   Roz Cochrane, Events Co-ordinator at the Cathedral, said: “The Cathedral is right in the heart of the city’s shopping district, and a local shopping centre is organising its own Jubilee celebrations alongside us. It is exciting to be planning such a positive event in the life of our city and, of course, to mark the significance of the event to our nation.” (Author: )
