Time of our lives!
Tour for churches after summer success
Share Jesus International, HOPE and Fusion Youth and Community will follow up the Great British Summer
with a UK Tour this autumn to help churches stay at the heart of community life.
Over 1,000 Big Jubilee Lunches were linked to a local church and 700,000 Diamond Jubilee New Testaments were given away as 8.5 million people in the UK sat down to eat with neighbours and friends. Supported by More than Gold, thousands of Christians ran Community Festivals in over 400 UK villages, towns and cities during the Games, with over half a million people from across the UK attending.
Now Share Jesus International, HOPE and Fusion Youth and Community want to harness that momentum for outreach in the coming years.
Tour Co-ordinator Marty Woods, from Fusion Youth and Community, said, “We’ve had the time of our lives in the UK this summer. The Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics have proved that Britain is hungry for community. The world has marvelled at our diversity, our quirky humour and our amazing heritage, and the church was right at the heart of it.”
There will be local training days across the country during the first half of 2013, introducing new programmes and resources for local churches to ensure they are at the centre of community life. Experts will advise churches on how they can create a 'rhythm of mission' throughout the year using key seasons in the church calendar.
