Churches in Milton Keynes are excited to be launching HOPE MK. At a gathering of church leaders and visionaries back in November, they dreamed together of how they could impact the city by empowering young people to do local mission and encouraging churches to work together more closely.
At the gathering Phil Timson, Youth Director for HOPE, said: “Wouldn’t it be awesome to see young people leading the way in Milton Keynes in demonstrating and sharing the love of God with people who might never get to a church. They will take a risk for Jesus and as a result contradict stereotypes and make a real difference.”
The plan is to have local churches hosting projects around the city as part of a big mission week in October 2013 and to invite youth from all 120 churches to serve their neighbourhoods in word and action.
Youth teams will meet together in the mornings at a central location for teaching, worship, prayer and training. Then set out for local projects in the afternoons - some of which will be new ideas and others to boost and support existing services – from youth cafes to painting schools.
Ricky Rew, one of the organisers of HOPE MK said: “We are so excited that young people will go out to serve practically, explain the reason they are doing it and invite peers to an evangelistic event on the Friday night. The last day will particularly stretch and challenge them in practical evangelism and boldness to offer prayer to people in the street.”
“We’ve been blown away with what God is already doing across our city, particularly in the lives of young people, and we can't wait to find out what He's got in store!”
HOPE MK will work with nearby churches together groups and the mission partnership who encourage churches to get together in ecumenical settings.
Youth, church leaders and young people are all excited about what God will do in their city as a result of stepped up unity, prayer and action. It is hoped that this mission week will build relationships between churches and act as a springboard for more mission together in 2014.
