What is a Bible Discovery Community?

Bible Discovery Communities are small groups where people can explore and discover the Bible together. The groups are not there to tell people what to think, it’s not a lecture, but a genuine exploration using 4 simple questions. The aim is for there to be groups all across the area in different places…not all churches/days/times so hopefully there’s something accessible for everyone.

Bible Discovery Community Top Tips

  • Offer a choice of different venues/times/days
  • Offer venues that are community spaces so that people who might not be used to/comfortable in a church can find a space that suits them, including online.
  • Think creatively about your venue. Where might people be anyway e.g. a toddler group, food bank, gym, coffee shop, pub or community centre.
  • Keep to 90 minutes max and include refreshments or a meal
  • Stay small– Bible Discovery Communities work best with a maximum of 10-12 people so if your group is bigger subdivide
  • Use Mark’s gospel for 4-6 weeks and keep to short passages
  • Aim for weekly to build connection with people and a habit of reading the Bible
  • Choose passages to suit your context

What Are the Bible Discovery Questions?

The Discovery Bible approach uses 4 simple questions
  • What stands out to me from the passage?
  • What does the passage tell me about God?
  • What does the passage tell me about people?
  • If this is God’s word to me how could it make a difference to my life?
At the next session start with an additional question:
  •  How did what you read make a difference to your life?

Put Your Bible Discovery Community on the Map

We want everyone who takes a gospel and is open to joining a Bible Discovery Community to be able to find one near them that suits them!  Ddd your Bible Discovery Community to a map that people will see (coming soon).

People need to know where and when your community will meet and have an organisation or person’s phone number, email or website to contact. Please remember that whatever you put on this map will become public so only do so with permission.
