How Does Our Personality Shape the Way We Share Jesus?
Evangelism isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach – it’s shaped by who we are as individuals. Just as our personalities influence every area of our lives, they also play a key role in how we share our faith.
Over the past 25 years, I've had the privilege of working with local churches and individual Christians eager to share their faith. One thing I’ve learned along the way is that many of us feel pressured to evangelise in a particular way. We often think there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to share the message of Jesus, and when we don’t meet these expectations, we can end up feeling guilty or inadequate.
I believe that faith sharing is not a “we-have-to” obligation, but a “we-get-to” opportunity – a chance to share the love of Jesus with the people around us: our friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours. I also believe that each of us has unique personalities and temperaments, and that God uses them as we share about Him.
At Share Jesus International, we’ve been thinking about this very thing. We’ve conducted extensive research and developed six faith-sharing profiles to help Christians better understand how they naturally approach evangelism. These profiles are designed to help you recognise your strengths and how God is using you to share His love while taking the pressure off feeling like you must evangelise in a certain way.
What are the Six Faith-Sharing Profiles?
If you’ve ever been in a situation where you feel like you need to “act” a certain way to share your faith, here’s the reality: evangelism looks different for everyone. Some people are naturally more outspoken, while others are quietly influential. Some people enjoy sharing their testimony, while others prefer to show God’s love through acts of service. Understanding your unique profile can help you approach faith-sharing in a way that feels authentic and natural.
Here are the six faith-sharing profiles we’ve identified:
1. Intentional Disciplers
These individuals enjoy walking alongside others on their faith journey, helping them take the next step. Whether it's sending a quick text to check in on someone or inviting a friend to read Scripture together, intentional disciplers focus on building relationships and guiding others toward a deeper understanding of Christ.
2. Team Players
Team players thrive in group settings. They believe in the power of collective evangelism and love sharing their faith as part of a team effort – whether that’s in a church outreach programme or a small group Bible study. They’re energised when working with others and see evangelism as a collaborative mission.
3. Open Connectors
These individuals are always on the lookout for opportunities to have spiritual conversations. They see God’s hand in everyday situations and are ready to engage with anyone who is open to discussing faith. Open connectors don’t hesitate to ask questions or share a word of encouragement when the moment is right.
4. Compassion Revealers
For compassion revealers, actions speak louder than words. These individuals believe that showing God’s love through service is one of the most powerful forms of evangelism. They’re the ones who will show up with a meal for a friend or offer help with a practical task, hoping their thoughtful actions speak about God’s love.
5. Life Sharers
Life sharers love to share their personal testimony. They believe that their story of transformation can inspire others to explore faith in Christ. Whether it’s telling someone about how God has worked in their life or sharing a specific moment of breakthrough, life sharers hope that their personal experiences can make the gospel relatable and real.
6. Bible Revealers
These individuals feel an urgency to communicate biblical truths. Bible revealers are passionate about sharing the Gospel message as quickly as possible and often feel compelled to dive straight into Scripture. They believe that the Word of God has the power to change hearts and bring people to faith.
Discover Your Profile
To help you better understand your own approach to faith-sharing, we’ve created a short online quiz. The quiz is designed to help you identify how you naturally share your faith and how you can lean into your strengths to build deeper relationships with those around you. It’s important to note that your approach may change depending on the situation, but these profiles offer helpful insights into your tendencies.
As I took the quiz myself, I came out as an Intentional Discipler. For me, faith sharing is about journeying alongside people, helping them explore what it means to follow Jesus. Sometimes, it’s as simple as picking up a conversation with a friend over coffee; other times, it’s more intentional, like inviting someone into my home to read the Bible together.
Take the Quiz
You can take the quiz for yourself at
sharejesusinternational.com. Once you’ve completed it, I’d encourage you to reflect on a few questions:
-
Do you agree with the Faith Sharing Profile you received?
-
How does it make you feel?
-
What might you do with the results?
-
What will you continue doing, and what areas might you want to grow in?
By understanding your own natural style of evangelism, we can embrace the ways God has uniquely gifted us for His mission. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to evangelism, but there are plenty of opportunities for all of us to answer the call to share Jesus with others.
Sharing the Gospel Authentically
Each of the six profiles has its own unique attributes to celebrate and areas for growth. We hope that these profiles will help you feel more confident in your faith-sharing journey and give you a framework for how to engage with others in a way that feels authentic to who you are.
Remember: sharing Jesus isn’t about fitting into someone else’s mould. It’s about embracing your God-given gifts and abilities, trusting that God is using your personality and life experiences to impact the world around you.
So, what is your profile, and how can you embrace it as you share Jesus today?
